It is all about surviving the rain before the storm
In an entire year, there have been days where I feel numb or just not like myself. My day does not go the way I expected it to, or maybe the day’s events that unfolded were the reasons it was ruined. Don’t you find it hard to pick yourself up and go along with the flow? Each and every person has their own life problems that they tackle everyday with a brave face. Not everyone is going to know that your day is going bad, so the only thing you can do is not take it seriously.
Sometimes, even if it is not intentional we end up venting out our frustration and anger on someone close to us without being consciously aware about it. It is not something that is in our control but the only thing we can do is to make sure to be aware of not hurting someone close to us by venting out our frustration.
During such days, it's up to us to make ourselves better, or if we cannot find the strength to do that, we have friends who cheer us up and help us become ourselves again. There are times when I myself feel like I need to get away from my family or the people around me. Sometimes it is the people or the city. That feeling is quite normal and valid.
Sometimes a hobby, going out for a walk or talking with a friend over a call is just the thing we need to feel better. No matter how small or big your problem is, at times like these friends often help us out with a solution. A call with a friend might just do the thing and give you the strength to pull yourself together.
When I feel frustrated or just mentally exhausted, I ask myself what is it I can do now to make myself feel better? If it’s a math question that is overwhelming me, I take a short break or simply change the subject. Sometimes when hobbies don’t make it any better, just learn to take a deep breath.
A bad day, when it gets unbearable, can cause your overthinking thoughts to surface and make you feel even worse. It is not in our hands to control the overthinking part of our mind, but the best thing that we can do at the moment is - distract ourselves with something that requires our full attention.
Bad days are hard to process and accept, but we have to normalize having them. We all are strong enough to survive those days. If not, the only thing that will happen is you having a mental breakdown.
Just like any jar, our mind also has a limit to how much we can bottle up our emotions. It is also crucial to accept the emotions that we feel. This acceptance makes it easier to get through the bad days. Journaling your thoughts about what made it bad or what made it good helps us to clear our mind.
So, let’s embrace these days just how they are. We don’t have the power to change the flow of direction of a river, and it is the same with life. Learn to go with the flow.
